Thomas Mower Martin was one of the pioneer artists who helped form the Ontario Society of Artists, was the first Director of the Art School (now the Ontario College of Art)  and soon after he taught there.1880 he was a founding and charter member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art (RCA). He hosted Oscar Wilde on a Toronto visit; traveled extensively throughout Ontario and eastwards to sketch and paint landscapes, wildlife and native scenes just as they were.
